GET HIM TO THE GREEK ★★ ½
(HBO on Comcast) A record-label flunky (Jonah Hill) has to get a wastrel rock star (Russell Brand) from London to Los Angeles through a minefield of groupies and pharmaceuticals. Predictable in its outlines but scurrilously amusing in the details, this Judd Apatow production is good rude fun before going soft in the clinch. Surprise: Sean “P. Diddy’’ Combs steals it. MYSTIC RIVER ★★★
(Comcast Movie Collections: Oscar Films [Past Winners]) Clint Eastwood’s often grueling powerhouse of a movie retains the pulpy pretensions and the almost Shakespearean sense of tragedy of Dennis Lehane’s bestseller. Sean Penn delivers a mannered, mesmerizing performance as a South Boston tough trying to uncover his daughter’s killer, while Kevin Bacon and Tim Robbins do solid, unshowy work as the detective on the case and a possible suspect. All three characters were childhood friends, and the film is at its blunt best when addressing the ways damage can cascade down the generations. (R; runs through March 13) TY BURR
