20/20: Before They Were Famous 10 p.m., Channel 5
Yes, famous people had bad haircuts, made poor fashion choices, and suffered through high school just like the rest of us. This Oscars-themed special, hosted by Robin Roberts, takes a look back at the youth of nominated stars like George Clooney, Glenn Close, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Gary Oldman, and others. It includes conversations with former costars and features childhood photos and home video. The show will also pay tribute to returning Oscars host Billy Crystal (pictured).

Is anyone watching this show? The newsmagazine debuted to little fanfare and mediocre ratings. This week’s stories include a profile of Svante Myrick, the young, biracial, newly elected mayor of Ithaca, N.Y.; an interview with controversial author Charles Murray to discuss his recent book, “Coming Apart: The State of White America, 1960-2010’’; and a piece on the rapidly depleting global rhino population due to the claims of some in Vietnam that the animal’s horn can help cure cancer.
