The City Council gave Mayor Daniel Rizzo a unanimous vote of confidence last Monday over his appointment of Joseph Cafarelli as acting police chief. Rizzo made the appointment after Terence Reardon resigned in what Rizzo’s spokesman, Myles Lang-Kennedy, called a mutual decision by Rizzo and Reardon. Reardon has resumed his previous rank of captain. Cafarelli is a police veteran of approximately 20 years who was a lieutenant at the time of his recent appointment. Rizzo plans to shortly initiate the process of selecting a permanent chief, according to Lang-Kennedy. In other business Monday, the council adopted a resolution supporting the efforts of contract workers at Logan International Airport to improve their pay. - John Laidler
