Jakob, 14
LIVES IN South Natick
HOBBIES Snowboarding, reading, listening to music
REQUESTS A quiet space to read and sleep
Jakob says: “I’m not in my room a lot, because I like to play Xbox. But I also like to read, so they put in a giant bookshelf. Snowboarding is really important to me.” He even picked out a snowboarding poster.
Jakob’s mom says: “Jakob’s room had a mural with terriers, moons, and stars. We were sad to see it go, but he’s getting older; it was time.”
How designer Kate McCusker of Theodore & Co. in Boston made it work: Tuning in to Jakob’s athletic interests, McCusker mounted a snowboard above the bed and designed an acrylic art piece encapsulating Jakob’s old karate belts. Knowing he’s a reader, and that the room would be used primarily at night, she designed a suede headboard that would be comfy for leaning against when reading in bed.
