In honor of Presidents’ Day and this year’s presidential election, Franklin Park Zoo will host its own animal election next week to vote in a new “president” of the zoo, officials said.
Next Monday through Friday, while most schools are on February vacation, those who visit the zoo between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. can learn about each of the six candidates’ “platforms,” discover what makes each animal unique, vote for their favorite contender at ballot boxes located in the zoo’s Tropical Forest section and commemorate the democratic process with games and activities, according to the animal park’s website.
Absentee ballots for the “PreZOOdential Election” may be cast online by e-mailing AnimalPresident@zoonewengland.com, zoo officials say on the website. The winner will be announced next Saturday and an inauguration party will follow in the Tropical Forest from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
