Dr. Lowell E. Schnipper named clinical director at Beth Israel Deaconess cancer center

Dr. Lowell E. Schnippercq has been named clinical director at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Cancer Center. Schnipper had been chief of hematology and oncology in the Department of Medicine since since 1974. In his new role, he will coordinate clinical care and research across cancer types.

“Over the past four decades, Dr. Schnipper has been instrumental in building BIDMC’s reputation as a leading cancer center that provides each of its patients the kind of care that each of us would want for our family members,” Dr. Kevin Tabbcq, the hospital’s chief executive, said in a press release. “We have no doubt that he will bring his trademark passion and clinical excellence to the entire Cancer Center.”

Schnipper is a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. His research has focused on development of cancer therapies and the genomic instability of cancer, according to the press release.

Schnipper studied medicine at Downstate College of Medicine and the State University of New York. He previously has been on the national board of directors for the American Cancer Society and president of its Massachusetts chapter.
