Johnny Boychuk signs three-year, $10.08 million extension

Johnny Boychuk has signed a three-year, $10.08 million extension. TSN first reported the transaction.

Boychuk will carry an average annual cap hit of $3.36 million. Boychuk would have been an unrestricted free agent at year's end.

The 28-year-old Boychuk has filled a valuable role as the Bruins' No. 3 defenseman. Boychuk has been Zdeno Chara's primary partner on the first pairing. Through 52 games, Boychuk has scored three goals and seven assists while averaging 20:30 of ice time per appearance.

The Bruins originally acquired Boychuk from Colorado for Matt Hendricks.
