Selectmen have voted to support a measure aimed at reducing the Community Preservation Act property tax surcharge by exempting the first $100,000 of property value. Under the state’s Community Preservation Act, Duxbury’s 3.5 percent surcharge raises funds for open space, historical preservation, and affordable housing. The exemption plan, originating with the town’s Community Preservation Committee, will lighten the tax burden on homeowners at a time when taxes are projected to increase due to the town’s school and public safety building projects. The measure will go before the annual Town Meeting next month. - Robert Knox
