I am forecasting generally between 1 inch and 3 inches of snow Statewide.(A town could see 4 inches, but unlikely) You can see the breakdown of the snowfall amounts below. When I draw these maps it's to give a general idea of the pattern of how the total amounts will play out. The trend overall is for less, not more snow.
I expect snow to break out across the area early Saturday morning. You should plan on it snowing around 7 A.M. It may be a bit later further north and east and earlier in the western part of the State. Initially, across the southeastern portion of the State, the snow will be mixed with some rain and be quite wet. Snow will melt on the roads until the temperatures cool off enough and the snow comes down hard enough to allow it to stick.
Around Boston and points north and west, the precipitation will fall in the form of snow the entire storm. The map below shows some of the snow already breaking out across areas to our south and west. This area will move east and then curve north over the next 12-18 hours.
The snow Boston will receive should measure enough to prevent us from breaking the record of the least amount of snow in a winter which was under 10" back in 1936-37. We have had just under 8" so far this fall/winter season.
In a year with so little snow, our Saturday storm gives snow lovers a reason to a be a little excited and reminds all of us that winter is not over. The cold will take hold Saturday night and continue through Monday. After Monday, our temperatures during the day will rebound to the 40s and much of the snow will be gone by next weekend.
