The following was submitted by the Medford Historical Society:Programming themes for spring 2012 include a look into the archaeology of Medford before Colonialism, a history of the three-decker house in New England and a special glimpse into the life of General Samuel Crocker Lawrence, Medford’s first Mayor and the man behind the Medford Historical Society’s important Civil War photo collection.

Ellen Berkland, Archaeologist for the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and former Boston city archaeologist will discuss the first settlers of the area and how environmental and natural factors created a perfect place for thriving early communities.
The "Menace" of the Three-Decker House
Thursday, March 15, 7:00 pm. Medford Public Library, 111 High Street
Dr. Stuart Brorson will illustrate why and where three-decker homes were invented, and what factors led to their rapid spread in New England.
General Samuel C. Lawrence: The Man, the Civil War Hero and the Collector
Tuesday, April 17, 7:00 pm. Medford Senior Center, 101 Riverside Avenue
Dee Morris and Allison Andrews will share the history of Lawrence's Civil War collection and his important ties to Medford.
