Freshman Austin Rivers, son of Celtics coach Doc Rivers, buried a 3-pointer at the horn to give No. 10 Duke an 85-84 win over No. 5 North Carolina last night in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Rivers scored a season-high 29 points and hit six 3s, the last of which certainly will live on in the lore of this fierce rivalry.

With the Blue Devils (20-4, 7-2, Atlantic Coast Conference) trailing by 2, Rivers launched a 3 over 7-footer Tyler Zeller from the right wing. The ball swished through the net, sending Rivers running down the court in celebration while the rest of his teammates gave chase before mobbing him.

Rivers’s 3 capped a wild rally for the Blue Devils, who trailed by 10 points with about 2 1/2 minutes left. Harrison Barnes led the Tar Heels (20-4, 7-2) with 25 points.

Syracuse 64, Georgetown 61 - Kris Joseph scored a career-high 29 points, hitting a go-ahead 3-pointer in the final minute of overtime, and second-ranked Syracuse (24-1, 11-1 Big East) beat 12th-ranked Georgetown (18-5, 8-4), in Syracuse, N.Y., to give coach Jim Boeheim his 880th career win.

Kansas 68, Baylor 54 - Jeff Withey scored a career-high 25 points to help the seventh-ranked Jayhawks (19-5, 9-2 Big 12) cruise over the sixth-ranked Bears (21-3, 8-3) in Waco, Texas.

Michigan State 77, Penn State 57 - Draymond Green had 23 points and made some timely shots to help the No. 11 Spartans (19-5, 8-3 Big Ten) pull away from the visiting Nittany Lions (10-15, 2-10).

Virginia 68, Wake Forest 44 - Mike Scott made all nine of his shots and scored 19 points to lead the No. 19 Cavaliers over the Demon Deacons in Charlottesville, Va.

Michigan 62, Nebraska 46 - Zack Novak scored 14 points to go over 1,000 for his career and the No. 22 Wolverines (18-7, 8-4 Big Ten ) sent the host Cornhuskers (11-12, 3-9) to their third straight loss.

Georgia State 61, Northeastern 59 - Eric Buckner tallied a double-double (14 points, 11 rebounds) and knocked down a free throw with 23 seconds left as the Panthers (17-8, 9-5 Colonial Athletic Association) edged the Huskies (11-13, 7-7) in Atlanta.

Holy Cross 64, Navy 52 - Justin Burrell scored 17 points and Phil Beans scored 8 of his 10 points in the second half as the visiting Crusaders (10-13, 4-5 Patriot League) handed the Midshipmen (3-20, 0-9) their 16th straight loss.

Xavier 84, Rhode Island 66 - Tu Holloway had 20 points and 10 rebounds in a victory over the visiting Rams (5-20, 2-8) that kept the Musketeers (16-8, 17-3) locked in a second-place tie in the Atlantic 10.

Women

Miami 61, North Carolina 37 - Shenise Johnson scored 19 points to lead the No. 6 Hurricanes (21-3, 10-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) over the No. 23 Tar Heels (17-7, 7-4) in Coral Gables, Fla.
