Letter: ‘Disgusted’ with decision on Plymouth farmers’ market

So now we know how much money it takes in Plymouth to throw ethics, morality, and fairness out the window. It takes $5,000, the amount of the bid accepted by the town to run a farmers market on the exact days and times of the Plymouth farmers market created and lovingly nurtured by Barbara Anglin for the last eight years. (“Plymouth farmers market founder ousted by competing bid,’’ Feb. 5.)

To say I’m disgusted with this decision cannot begin to express my feelings. I started attending the Plymouth farmers market in 2010, and I felt welcomed and nurtured from the very first visit. Anglin’s hospitality is an intangible that can’t be quantified, but it made a real difference in how I felt about the market.

I doubt running a farmers market is a lucrative proposition. I doubt any salary Anglin takes fairly compensates her for all the work she does. I do know that the Plymouth selectmen have let a good thing be disrupted and possibly destroyed. I do know that I will NEVER patronize the new farmers’ market. I imagine that the 600-plus people who signed a petition supporting Barbara won’t be going there either.

The selectmen should be ashamed of themselves. They have placed money - it’s always about money and politics, isn’t it? - above fairness, ethics, and morality.
