The creators of BostonTCrush.com seem to understand that their concept is a little intrusive. But they’re still encouraging strangers to take snapshots of attractive but unsuspecting men on the T and upload them to the site, where the public is free to ooh and aah at them.
The creators operate similar websites featuring men on the New York and London subways. Some unwitting models are surely flattered by the suggestive comments about the “sexy strap-hanger’’ or “rough and ready’’ traveler on the websites. Yet the Boston site, or the coarser imitators that will surely follow, could make a subway ride an annoyance to riders, of either sex, who don’t want to be critiqued or e-catcalled during their commutes. Indeed, that’s why BostonTCrush creators say they’re keeping photos of female riders off limits, at least for now - because of what they call the “terrible impact [that] street harassment has had on our society.’’
