Sister Kathleen McCluskey, executive director of transition for the new school, says she hopes the current students at Trinity and Mount Saint Joseph will enroll in the new school. Honoring The Mount’s tradition, she said some single-gender classes may be developed.

“People are looking at whether young women do better in a single-sex environment for math and science, and there’s some conviction that that’s the case.’’

There is room at the school to accommodate an anticipated doubling of the student body, she said, and early renovations will include boys’ bathrooms and locker rooms. Tuition and fees will be $10,050 - about $500 more than Trinity Catholic’s current cost and $230 more than Mount Saint Joseph’s.

At Trinity Catholic, junior Myriah Young of Hyde Park said she will miss the tight community. “I think I’ll miss the building and the memories we’ve created here,’’ she says. “It’s hard knowing I won’t be graduating here.’’

Principal Scott Kmack said the new school will reunite some former classmates, who went to middle school together. “We’re trying to look at this as an opportunity for two schools with very similar student populations and great histories,’’ he said.

Danny Donabedian, a sophomore from Watertown, said he visited and met some Mount Saint Joseph students and faculty. “I realize they’re very much like us,’’ he said. He is looking forward to what he calls “the best of both schools.’’

He is also looking forward to the addition of so many girls to the new student body. “I’m excited about that, of course,’’ he said.
