Officers went to the location — Victoria’s Sub Shop on Rockland Street — when police observed a man matching the suspect’s description walking away from the parking lot.
More officers from Hingham and Cohasset soon arrived on scene and ordered the suspect to stop at gunpoint.
The suspect was taken into custody after some resistance. It took three officers and two sets of handcuffs to secure him, police said.
A subsequent investigation showed that the victim had been at a business in Scituate when the suspect, who knows the victim, asked for a ride.
In the car, the suspect grabbed a knife from the victim’s work utility vehicle and said, “I can kill you,” police reported. The suspect then pointed the knife at the victim, told him to continue driving, and removed all cash from the victim’s wallet.
In an attempt to get away, the victim convinced the suspect they should stop to get food. The suspect agreed, and they drove to the sub shop in Hingham.
The suspect told the victim to remain in the van, threatening to kill him with a wrench if he did not, and left to get food. The suspect also removed the keys from the car and walked inside.
The victim had a spare ignition key, however, and drove out of the lot and to the Hull Police Station.
