Notre Dame continued its impressive run through the Big East, beating another ranked foe yesterday and sending No. 24 Connecticut to its third straight loss.

Eric Atkins scored 13 points and Jerian Grant hit three key free throws late as the Irish (14-8, 6-3) held on for their third straight win, 50-48, over the Huskies at the XL Center in Hartford.

The loss spoiled the return of freshman guard Ryan Boatright, who scored 6 points, for UConn (14-6, 4-4). He had missed the last three games amid an NCAA investigation into his eligibility.

The Huskies were 1-2 since Boatright was removed. They won at Notre Dame, snapping the Irish’s 29-game home-court winning streak, before losing consecutively to Cincinnati and Tennessee, both by 3 points.

Notre Dame trailed this one, 24-21, at halftime, but went on a 13-0 run to open the second half.

Jeremy Lamb had 16 points to lead the Huskies and had a chance to tie after missing his second free throw with 2.3 seconds left on purpose. He grabbed his miss but his off-balance follow bounced off the rim at the buzzer.

Connecticut has been ranked in the Top 25 for 28 straight weeks, the fifth-longest stretch in program history, a run that is likely to end today.

Ohio St. 64, Michigan 49 - Lenzelle Smith Jr. scored 17 points and had a career-high 12 rebounds, Jared Sullinger added 13 points, and the No. 4 Buckeyes (19-3, 7-2) beat the 20th-ranked Wolverines (16-6, 6-3) in Columbus, Ohio, keeping the Buckeyes in a first-place tie in the Big Ten.

The Buckeyes extended their homecourt winning streak to 38, the second-longest in the program’s 100 years.

North Carolina 93, Georgia Tech 81 - Harrison Barnes scored 23 points and the No. 7 Tar Heels hit 10 3-pointers in a victory over the visiting Yellow Jackets (8-13, 1-6 ACC).

Tyler Zeller added 17 points for the Tar Heels (18-3, 5-1), who have won 12 of 13 games and extended their school-record home winning streak to 31 games. North Carolina moved into a tie atop the ACC standings.

Indiana 103, Iowa 89 - Freshman Cody Zeller scored a season-high 26 points on 10-of-11 shooting to help the 16th-ranked Hoosiers (17-5, 5-5 Big Ten) top the visiting Hawkeyes (11-11, 3-6).

Vermont 77, UNH 60 - Sandro Carissimo scored 14 points to lead the host Catamounts (13-10, 7-2 America East) past the Wildcats (7-13, 2-7).

South Florida 81, Providence 78 - The Friars (12-10, 1-8 Big East) got a career-high 33 points and eight rebounds from freshman LaDontae Henton, but fell to the host Bulls (13-9, 6-3).

Women

Miami 88, BC 57 - Shenise Johnson scored 16 of her 22 points in the opening half to lead the 10th-ranked Hurricanes to their eighth straight win, routing the Eagles at Conte Forum.
