Boston will be the first US city to have commercial service using the much-anticipated Boeing 787 Dreamlinercq, Japan Airlinescq announced today.
The aircraft, which can fly long distances with less fuel than other planes its size, will make its inaugural Boston-Tokyo flight April 22cq. The Japan Airlines flight, offered in partnership with American Airlines, is the first nonstop route between Boston and Asia.
“We’re honored, delighted, and proud to be the first US airport to have scheduled commercial service with the 787,” said Matthew Brelis, spokesman for the Massachusetts Port Authority, which operates Logan.
United Airlines also plans to start operating the Dreamliner in the United States this year. All Nippon Airwayscq, the first airline to put the 787 into commercial service, will also fly the plane from Tokyo to Seattle and San Jose, but has not announced firm dates.
