Boston Collegiate Charter School invites local business leaders to read to students

Sixth-graders at the Boston Collegiate Charter School in Dorchester received a special visit from local executives Tuesday.

As part of the Boston Partners in Education's Big Cheese Reads Program, students at BCCS welcomed three local business and community leaders to their school to read passages from their favorite books as well as answer questions from students about their industry and work.

"Literacy is the key that links all subject area curricula together and is an important part of a student's success in college acceptance, college persistence, and beyond," Eileen Callahan, the school's chief academic officer, said in a statement.

Tuesday's readers included Chris McIntosh, publisher of the Boston Business Journal; Jay Shuman, chief financial officer of Boston Financial Data Services; and Heather Jack, managing partner of Massachusetts Nonprofit Support Services.

Founded in 1998, BCCS is a tuition-free public school that serves nearly 600 students in grades five - twelve, with a 100-percent college acceptance rate.
