Connecticut investigators are trying to identify a woman whose severely injured body was found near an entrance ramp to southbound Interstate 95 in Westport.

State Police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance said the woman was found shortly before midnight Thursday between the Exit 18 entrance ramp’s acceleration lane and the right travel lane. He said anyone who may have seen anything near the scene is asked to call state police.

Vance said Friday major crime squad detectives are investigating her “suspicious’’ death. An autopsy did not determine how she died, and more tests are pending.

He said the slender woman is believed to have been between age 35 and 45. A section of her hair was died bright red, and she had several tattoos on her upper back. She was wearing two imitation fur jackets and knee boots with “U 2’’ written on them in several places.

Police found several personal items that apparently belonged to her, but no vehicles believed related to her death.
