A European court has turned down an appeal by a British man who has been fighting extradition to the United States to face a murder charge for nearly a decade.
The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, France, says extraditing Phillip Harkins to a country with the death penalty would not breach his human rights.
Harkins, a 33-year-old Scot, is accused of killing a man during an attempted robbery in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1999. He has been fighting extradition from Scotland since being released on bail in 2002.
