Heroux said he operates a consulting firm, Public Administration and Policy Associates, that performs cost benefit analyses for local and state government agencies, as well as schools and nonprofits.
He has also conducted policy research for correctional systems in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, according to his campaign website.
His spokesman, Kevin Sowyrda - a consultant to Frank in the 2010 election - said in a phone interview last night that the campaign has so far amassed about $20,000 and is planning a fund-raising drive to start next week.
“I don’t expect to have the big, huge contributions coming in [because] I’m not an establishment’’ candidate, Heroux said.
Republican Sean Bielat, who ran against Frank in 2010, is expected to announce his candidacy today.
Heroux joins a field on the Democratic side that could include Joseph P. Kennedy III, son of the former congressman and grandson of Robert F. Kennedy, as well as Michael P. Ross, a member of the Boston City Counil. They both recently formed exploratory committees.
Besides Bielat on the Republican side, Elizabeth Childs of Brookline has formally declared she will join the race.
