Officer who arrested Obama’s uncle had 9 accidents

January 13, 2012

The Massachusetts police officer who arrested President Barack Obama’s uncle on drunken driving charges has had nine on-duty accidents during his 15 years on the Framingham police force.

Framingham Police Chief Steven Carl tells The Boston Globe on Friday that no one was ever injured in the accidents.

Val Krishtal arrested Onyango (ohn-YAHN’-goh) Obama in August after the officer said Obama failed to come to a complete stop at a stop sign and nearly caused his police cruiser to crash into his vehicle.

Obama’s lawyer said Thursday that he is reviewing Krishtal’s driving record to see if there is a pattern of bad driving he can use in Obama’s defense.

The defense maintains that Obama, the half-brother of the president’s late father, was not committing any violation when he was stopped by Krishtal.
