A woman who was shot by her neighbor, an off-duty state trooper, while she was walking her dogs on New Year’s Eve may undergo yet another surgery due to infection. The .50-caliber lead ball that went into Cheryl Blair’s side left a 10-inch wound. She is being treated at Rhode Island Hospital. After antibiotics failed to heal the wound site in the week after the accident, doctors performed an operation on Blair Friday to address infection, blood clotting, and bone fragments, her husband, Jim Blair, said last week.
