The Red Sox have acquired Oakland closer Andrew Bailey and OF Ryan Sweeney.
Josh Reddick is going to Oakland as part of the deal. The Athletics also receive Single A first baseman Miles Head and Single A RHP Raul Alcantara.
Bailey was the 2009 American League rookie of the year. The 27-year-old has a 1.47 earned-run average, an 0.95 WHIP, and 75 saves over three seasons. The New Jersey native went to Wagner College in New York and lives in Connecticut.
Bailey started last season on the disabled list with a forearm strain and was not activated until May 29. He ended the season with a 3.24 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP.
Sweeney, who turns 27 in February, is a fourth-outfielder type. He hit .265 with one homer and 25 RBIs in 299 plate appearances last season. He is an excellent defender.
Reddick, who turns 25 in February, hit .280 with seven homers and 28 RBIs in 87 games last season.
Head, 20, hit .299 with 22 homers and 82 RBIs with Greenville and Salem last season.
Alcantara is the prize for Oakland. The 19-year-old has a 2.72 career ERA over two seasons and has a big arm.
