POP & ROCK

BATHS Under the moniker Baths, electronic musician Will Wiesenfeld creates dense, skittering confections that end up sounding like futuristic R&B. Dec. 1, 9 p.m. Tickets: $15. Middle East Downstairs. 617-864-3278. www.ticketweb.com

GRIEVES & BUDO Grieves’s new album is called “Together/Apart,’’ and that punctuation couldn’t be more apt: the Seattle-based rapper obviously doesn’t know if he’d be happier with or without his beloved. “Together/Apart’’ is one of the year’s most emotionally resonant indie hip-hop albums, and he’s touring with his partner in crime, Budo, to bring it to life. Rising rapper K.Flay opens the show. Dec. 5, 9 p.m. Tickets: $15, $13 in advance. Middle East Downstairs. 617-864-3278. www.ticketweb.com

TORI AMOS Described by this paper as the “bassooniest’’ album of her career, Amos’s latest is yet another far-flung detour for the chameleonic singer. “Night of Hunters’’ is a concept album that Amos has called a “21st-century song cycle inspired by classical music themes spanning over 400 years.’’ Be sure to catch the opening set from Norwegian, heart-on-sleeve singer-songwriter Thomas Dybdahl. Dec. 6, 7:30 p.m. Tickets: $39.50-$49.50. Orpheum Theatre. 800-745-3000. www.ticketmaster.com

BOBBY With its choral arrangements, rock instrumentation, and ambient upheaval, Bobby’s self-titled debut was one of the more bewildering - and equally beguiling - releases of 2011. Dec. 6, 9 p.m. Tickets: $9. Great Scott. www.greatscottboston.com

JAMES REED

FOLK, WORLD & COUNTRY

THE JUANITO PASCUAL NEW FLAMENCO TRIO For his latest exploration of the Spanish artform, this local flamenco guitar maestro and scholar will be joined by Tupac Mantilla on percussion and Haggai Cohen Milo on acoustic bass. Dec. 1, 8 & 10 p.m. Tickets: $25. Scullers. 617-562-4111, www.ticketweb.com

OVER THE RHINE Comprised of Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist, this husband-and-wife duo skirts the fringes of Americana, with songs that would be at home in both coffeehouses and after-hours jazz clubs. Over the Rhine comes to town with a new album, “The Long Surrender,’’ produced by Joe Henry. Dec. 2, 8 p.m. Tickets: $19.50-$22.50. Berklee Performance Center. 617-747-2261, www.berkleebpc.com

ROSIE LEDET Raised in rural Louisiana, Ledet eventually became an ambassador of the region’s rich Creole zydeco tradition, giving it a pop sensibility while wielding a mean accordion and a voice to match. Dec. 2, 10 p.m. Tickets: $15. Johnny D’s. 617-776-2004, www.johnnyds.com
