Students from Dorchester’s Boston Collegiate Charter School will take the stage at the Strand Theater Dec. 1 and 2 for the school’s rendition of the musical “Once on This Island.”

Nearly 40 students from grades five through 12 will perform this touching play about grief and love. Through a grant from the Linde Family Foundation, BCCS was able to raise the funds to perform on the historic Strand Theater’s main stage, which is equipped with professional lighting and sound equipment, along with dressing rooms just like the ones the pros use.

Even though some of the older students are not new to the world of theater the new location still had even the most seasoned students excited.

“I can’t even believe this is all real,” Milan Anderson, one of the musical leads, said in a statement.

Performances of "Once on This Island" at the Strand Theater are on Thursday, Dec. 1 and Friday, Dec. 2 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the door, $12 in advance and can be purchased from the main offices of the school at 11 Mayhew St. or 215 Sydney St.
