It also was marked by some timely plays by the defense, which absorbed four BC turnovers and was generally stout in the red zone. The Eagles did allow two fourth-quarter touchdowns, but that was after the outcome had been decided.
Spaziani and his players know a higher level of effort will be needed against the Seminoles.
“We’ve got to do a better job on defense,’’ said middle linebacker Luke Kuechly, who again led the way with 12 tackles, an interception, and a pass breakup, but had help in several areas. “With six minutes [to go] in the game, we kind of took off. Next week, we have to play every play.’’
Next week is only days away against a team that spanked North Carolina State Saturday, 34-0.
Spaziani is well aware of what must be done in a short period of time.
“We looked at the tape, and we still won,’’ he said. “We did make some big plays. But we still have problems. We got better in some areas, but we still have to navigate our way through the problems and potholes.’’
The offensive line again produced a strong effort.
“We have been practicing with the same guys and they are inching forward,’’ said Spaziani. “They are doing some nice things.’’
Of Florida State, Spaziani said, “You look at them and they look like a team that people were touting as the national champion. I don’t see a weakness. They are athletic, well-coached, they play good defense, good offense.
“They have it all.’’
