Sitting in a rustic neighborhood in a town overflowing with history, this 53-year-old home has been refreshed by its current owner, an architect, without disturbing its Modern design. It is still has the earth brown exterior that blends into the surrounding towering pines and carpet of pine needles. But inside, a constricting wall has been removed between the living room and the kitchen. The kitchen now has walls painted green, cork flooring, maple cabinets with frosted glass doors, and high-end stainless steel appliances. A four-person dining area with oak floors connects to the living room where the original redwood wall paneling is intact, as is the large bricked fireplace. For both rooms, large windows provide light and views of the forest-like three-quarter acre lot.

A tri-level, the three bedrooms on the upper level are comfortably sized with good closet space. Each has long banks of windows. The smallest bedroom has distinctive cork flooring. The master has its own entrance to an upgraded full bath, which now has a deep soaking tub and glass-enclosed shower. The lower level is finished and contains an office and a large family room with a door to the backyard; both are well provided with natural light.

The house is based on the designs of MIT architect Walter Pierce, who developed the Peacock Farms neighborhood of contemporary homes. Bill Janovitz and John Tse of Hammond Real Estate in Lexington are the listing brokers.
