Murphy named police chief

Police Sergeant Michael Murphy has been named successor to Chief Edward W. Nolan, who will retire early next year. Town Administrator Greg Balukonis announced the decision at the Board of Selectmen’s meeting on Oct. 17. Murphy, a longtime veteran of the department, has been a sergeant since 2007. Prior to that, he was a detective for nine years and a patrolman for four. He was Police Officer of the Year in 2006, 2009, and 2011. - Brenda J. Buote
