Danny Koevermans scored in the 83d minute to give Toronto FC a 2-2 tie with the visiting Revolution yesterday in the final MLS game of the season for both teams. Forward Nick Soolsma opened the scoring for Toronto (6-13-15), which has given up a league-worst 59 goals. Monsef Zerka and Milton Caraglio scored for New England (5-16-13). Caraglio’s goal came one minute into the second half and looked to be enough for a New England win until Koevermans tapped in a long ball from Gianluca Zavarise. Benny Feilhaber set up both goals for the Revolution … In other MLS games, Matt Besler scored in the 54th minute to lift Sporting Kansas City to a 1-0 victory over host D.C. United, earning the top seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs; Wells Thompson scored in the 84th minute to lead visiting Colorado over Vancouver, 2-1; Diego Chaves scored in the 81st minute to lift host Chicago over Columbus, 3-2; and Futty Danso scored in stoppage time to lift Portland to a 1-1 draw with Real Salt Lake in Sandy, Utah.

Leonard, Chappell share lead at Disney

Justin Leonard chipped in three times in a span of five holes to salvage a scrappy day at Disney with a 2-under-par 70 that gave him a share of the lead with PGA Tour rookie Kevin Chappell at the Children’s Miracle Network Classic in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. They were at 14-under 202, one shot ahead of 21-year-old Bio Kim, who needs at least a two-way tie for second to secure his tour card for next year. Brookline’s James Driscoll is seven back … Sergio Garcia shot a 7-under 64 to extend his lead to eight shots after the third round of the Castello Masters in Castellon, Spain … Yani Tseng shot a 5-under 67 for a two-shot lead going into the final round of the LPGA Taiwan Championship in Yang Mei.

Vonn wins season-opening Cup race

Lindsey Vonn used a blistering finish to win the season-opening World Cup giant slalom in Soelden, Austria, and become the fifth woman to win a race in all five Alpine disciplines. Vonn is the second American skier to complete the discipline sweep after Bode Miller. She edged Olympic champion Viktoria Rebensburg of Germany. Elisabeth Goergl of Austria was third. The discipline sweep has been achieved by Austria’s Petra Kronberger, Sweden’s Pernilla Wiberg, Croatia’s Janica Kostelic, and Sweden’s Anja Paerson … Meryl Davis and Charlie White picked up where they left off last season - atop the medals podium wearing gold. The Americans won the ice dancing title at Skate America in Ontario, Calif., following up the world championship they claimed in April.
