NBA

Derrick Rose said yesterday in Chicago that blame for the league’s current labor impasse rests squarely with team owners, not players. The Bulls All-Star guard believes the lockout, which has wiped out training camp, exhibition games, and the early part of the regular season, will result in a partial regular season. NBA commissioner David Stern already wiped out the season’s first two weeks and has threatened to cancel the showcase Christmas Day games … In an interview with HBO, Jerry West said he has battled depression since childhood, when his father would beat him, causing low self-esteem that has plagued him despite a Hall of Fame career with the Lakers as a player and executive. West said his West Virginia childhood was devoid of love and filled with anger as a result of his abusive father, who left him feeling tormented and worthless. West said his depression never bothered him as a player during 14 seasons because he was so driven by a fear of failure. However, once the season ended, he would dwell on defeats, including the Lakers’ six NBA Finals losses to the Celtics.
