The status of coach Steve Nicol, whose contract also expires after this season, has also not been clarified.
“I don’t want to be back if Stevie isn’t coming back, to be honest about it,’’ Joseph said. “He’s done a lot for my career and I wouldn’t be where I am without him. Hopefully, they realize what he means to this team and give him the necessary tools he needs to be successful.
“Stevie has done an awesome job. He’s got us to so many finals, we were just not good enough to bring the [MLS] Cup home. We have a young bunch and he’s done great with a young bunch in the past. All these guys just got here, and look what he’s done. He just needs another year with this group.’’
Joseph is two games shy of the team record of 243 set by Jay Heaps from 2001-09. Joseph, who joined the Revolution in 2003, can tie the mark with appearances tonight and at Toronto FC next Saturday.
“Heaps is one of those guys who played hurt all the time and he wears his heart on his sleeve and was so emotional,’’ Joseph said. “So, for me to be mentioned with him is an honor.’’
The Revolution (5-15-12, 27 points) are in last place in the overall standings and have a losing home record (4-6-6) for the first time since 1999.
“One thing you can’t label us as [is] we’re not pushing and trying to win games,’’ Nicol said. “We haven’t done that, but we’ll certainly go out [tonight] again.
“I think from maybe halfway through the season we’ve made a lot of chances [opportunities]. Haven’t taken them all, but we’ve made chances. If you want to be super positive, to be honest, we’ve made chances in every game we’ve played since then, whether it’s home or away. But we haven’t kept them out.’’
