The Bruins will depart from the Lampoon Castle on Bow St. in Harvard Square around 4 p.m. in Super Duck Tour Trolleys and the rolling parade will wind through the square to a stage outside 30 Brattle St., according to the business association. There, comedy magazine The Harvard Lampoon, will give players from the team its “Best Sports Team Ever” award.
Anywhere from five to 10 Bruins players are expected to participate in the event, said Jonathan Finn-Gamiño a vice president of the Lampoon.
Denise Jillson, the executive director of the Harvard Square Business Association, said that the list of participating players she has includes Milan Lucic, Brad Marchand, Tyler Seguin, Shawn Thornton, Johnny Boychuk and Andrew Ference. The six players will be accepting the award on behalf of their teammates, Jillson said.
Lampoon members will stage some skits and jest with the Bruins players, but Finn-Gamiño said it will all be in good fun. Finn-Gamiño said the Lampoon members are fans of the Bruins and watched the hockey team during the championship run earlier this year.
“We just think it would be great to honor them,” he said. “They are a great group of guys.”
The Harvard University Band will lead the parade and will be escorted by Cambridge Police and Fire Department personnel. The rolling parade is expected to arrive at the stage on Brattle Street around 4:15 p.m., according to the business association.
A street festival will also be held from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. featuring musical performances, food and entertainment. The family-friendly event is free and open to the public.
