The deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum in Lincoln has acquired artist Dan Graham’s latest creation, a sculpture some might call a takeoff on the old carnival funhouse mirrors.
“Crazy Spheroid - Two Entrances’’ is a half-moon-shaped glass and steel construction with two-way mirrors. It allows visitors to walk inside the two-chamber sphere through separate rectangular doorway-shaped entrances and observe in the mirrors their own movements, the silhouettes of the folks on the other side of the mirrors (in the other chamber), and the distorted reflections of activity taking place outside the spheroid.
Nick Capasso, deputy director for Curatorial Affairs at the deCordova, noted in a statement that the Graham sculpture was the fourth major piece the museum has been able to acquire recently to boost its collection, thanks to its robust Hamilton R. James Sculpture Park Acquisition Fund.
