Gay rights supporters to stage protest in Boston

Supporters for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights are marking the end of the military “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’’ policy by staging a protest in Boston to draw attention to the fact that transgender Americans are still unable to serve openly in the military.

The protest is part of a coordinated action across the country organized by the national gay-rights organization GetEQUAL marking the legal end of the military “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’’ policy. The practice was adopted in 1993, allowing gays to serve as long as they did not openly acknowledge their sexual orientation.
