“Our football program operates as a family unit, and we are totally supportive of Kevin,’’ Spaziani said in a statement. “I would like to ask our fans and followers to support Kevin and respect his privacy. I have the utmost confidence in Dave Brock and we will begin the transition immediately.’’
Rogers joined the Eagles staff last February, replacing Gary Tranquill, who retired after two years in the position. With a résumé that included extensive stints in college football as well as the National Football League (he came to Chestnut Hill after a five-year stint as the Vikings quarterbacks coach), Rogers hoped to re-energize an offense led by sophomore QB Chase Rettig.
But Rogers had to deal with a series of injuries along the offensive line, the loss of running back Montel Harris (for the first two games at least) with a knee injury, as well as health issues, including a back problem.
Brock came to the Eagles in 2009 from Kansas State, where he was the offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach.
With Jones out - BC officials said they will ask the NCAA for a medical redshirt for the 5-foot-11-inch, 178-pound sophomore - Spaziani must reconfigure his secondary once again.
“We can move Jimmy Noel into that spot,’’ said Spaziani, speaking about Jones’s position.
As for the loss of Rogers and the affect it might have on game prepartion, Spaziani said, “You have to learn to expect the unexpected. Stuff always happens.’’
He also may have to readjust the offensive line as well, since center Mark Spinney injured his knee against Central Florida and his status for Saturday’s game against Duke is uncertain.
