THE GLOBE’S Aug. 27 editorial “O’Malley’s sex-abuse policy: proof is in the implementation’’ did not get to heart of the issue of transparency and honesty. Cardinal O’Malley is supposed to take his direction and orders first from the Gospel in which Jesus clearly states that “there is nothing concealed that will not be revealed.’’ As the chief shepherd of the Boston archdiocesan flock, O’Malley’s first duty is to the truth.
Jesus defined himself as the way, the truth, and the life. By withholding the names of nearly 100 priests and deacons who abused children in the Archdiocese of Boston during the past 60 years, O’Malley violates the Gospel mandate to tell the truth and nothing but the truth and the letter and spirit of the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People that was developed beginning in 2002.
