Conn. trooper layoffs will begin today

HARTFORD

August 24, 2011

Governor Dannel P. Malloy said he is moving ahead with plans to begin laying off 56 Connecticut state troopers. Malloy said yesterday that the layoffs will proceed, but on a staggered basis. He said a “substantial number’’ will lose their jobs today. Malloy said he did not want to proceed with the layoffs but had no choice after the unionized troopers voted down the wage-freeze portion of the labor savings and concessions agreement. He said he hopes the laid-off troopers will be rehired as veteran officers retire. (AP)
