In her fourth tournament since sitting out 49 weeks because of injury and illness, Serena Williams won the Rogers Cup yesterday in Toronto, beating Samantha Stosur, 6-4, 6-2. A foot injury and then blood clots in her lungs sidelined Williams after she won Wimbledon last year. Now she’s won two straight tournaments after taking the Stanford title July 31. The formerly top-ranked Williams was unseeded in the tournament and is ranked just 80th in the world. On the men’s side, top-ranked Novak Djokovic, who won the Rogers Cup in 2007, captured his ninth tournament of the year and record fifth in a season in an ATP Masters 1,000 event, beating Mardy Fish, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
