Beckett struck out 10 and gave up two hits in a sterling eight-inning performance. Pedroia had three singles off Sabathia and Marco Scutaro had a two-run double off of Joba Chamberlain in the seventh in a 2-hour-58-minute affair - the shortest Sox-Yankees game this year.

Adrian Gonzalez snapped a 2-2 tie in the seventh with a sacrifice fly, then Kevin Youkilis followed with a two-run homer. Gonzalez also homered leading off the fourth. Papelbon ended the game by getting Mark Teixeira to pop up with the tying run on base.
Red Sox 6, Yankees 0
W: Beckett. L: Sabathia.
Beckett again bested the Bombers in standout style, striking out nine in six innings. Matt Albers tossed two frames and Rich Hill closed out the victory. Gonzalez’s lone hit was a three-run homer in the seventh off Sabathia.
Red Sox 7, Yankees 5
W: Jon Lester. L: Freddy Garcia. S: Papelbon.
David Ortiz’s solo homer in the fifth broke a 4-4 tie, and Jarrod Saltalamacchia made it 7-5 with a solo shot in the eighth. The win gave the Sox a sweep and put them at .500 for the first time all season.
JUNE 7-9 AT NEW YORK
Red Sox 6, Yankees 4
W: Lester. L: Garcia. S: Papelbon.
The Sox moved into a first-place tie with the Yankees thanks to a three-run first. Jacoby Ellsbury led off with his seventh homer of the season, and the Sox sent Garcia packing after 1 ⅔ innings.
Red Sox 11, Yankees 6
W: Tim Wakefield. L: A.J. Burnett. S: Alfredo Aceves.
Ellsbury had three hits, an RBI, a run, and a stolen base. The Sox scored eight runs off Burnett in 5 ⅔ innings. Wakefield left in the sixth with an 8-4 lead, and Aceves earned the save by pitching the final 3 ⅔ innings. The win gave Boston sole possession of first place for the first time since May 29.

Boston picked up its seventh straight win against New York as Beckett beat Sabathia for the third time this year. Granderson’s two-run homer in the first was the only scoring until the seventh, when the Sox erupted for seven runs.
