Dustin Pedroia was named American League Player of the Month today after batting .411 (46-for-112) in July. It was the first time in his career the Red Sox second baseman earned the monthly honor.

Pedroia, who had a career-high 25-game hitting streak from June 29 to July 28, had nine doubles, one triple, eight home runs, 22 RBIs and 27 runs scored in 26 games during July.

It was the second straight month the Red Sox claimed the honor after first baseman Adrian Gonzalez was recognized in June as AL Player of the Month.
