Mets 8, Nationals 5 - Jose Reyes drove in two runs, and visiting New York made Chien-Ming Wang’s return to the big leagues a short one.
Wang (0-1) couldn’t help Washington in his first major league appearance two years to the day after he had shoulder surgery. The righthander gave up six runs on eight hits in four innings.
Rays 8, Mariners 0 - Jeff Niemann (5-4) allowed three hits and struck out a career-high 11 in 6 ⅔ innings, and visiting Tampa Bay supported him with an eight-run second inning.
Mariners starter Erik Bedard (4-7), just off the disabled list with a knee injury and the subject of trade rumors, showed the effects of his 32-day layoff.
Braves 5, Marlins 0 - Dan Uggla hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the seventh inning, Brandon Beachy combined with two relievers on a three-hitter, and host Atlanta ended Florida’s five-game winning streak.
Uggla extended his hitting streak to 20 games and leads Atlanta with 19 homers. He entered July with a .176 batting average but is up to .206 after going 1 for 4 against Florida.
Cardinals 9, Cubs 2 - Albert Pujols got his 2,000th hit and Edwin Jackson pitched seven innings in his debut to help St. Louis hammer visiting Chicago.
Royals 12, Indians 0 - Jeff Francis pitched eight sharp innings, Melky Cabrera hit a grand slam, and visiting Kansas City pounded Cleveland.
