Sports and media royalty were in town over the weekend to celebrate the wedding Saturday of Boston College grad, CBS star, and former Globe writer Lesley Visser and businessman and Harvard grad Robert Kanuth. The couple were married by the Rev. Dorothy Austin in a ceremony in Appleton Chapel at Harvard’s Memorial Church. Later, 250-some guests partied at the Mandarin Oriental, where they dined on Maine lobster and a wedding cake made by celebrity baker Sylvia Weinstock, and danced to music by Jim Valli and his band, who also played at Chelsea Clinton’s wedding. Lesley told us a few of her memories from the night: legendary ice skater Nancy Kerrigan dancing with legendary Boston College English professor Paul Doherty; jazz guru Christian McBride jamming with Valli; former Yankee Tino Martinez cutting in on basketball coach Rick Pitino (who introduced Visser and Kanuth) to dance with Pitino’s wife, Joanne; and Visser dancing with Celtics co-owner Steve Pagliuca during Valli’s rendition of “Dirty Water.’’ Visser, who was scheduled to take a red-eye with Kanuth to Paris for their honeymoon last night, said of the event, “It was such a tumble and a jumble of joy.’’
