SURROGATES ** (Starz on Comcast) In the future, we’ll all have robot surrogates, and won’t that be fun? The latest Bruce Willis futuristic action rama-lama is a pretty watchable sci-fi B movie, a case of a good director (Jonathan Mostow) and some intriguing ideas struggling to overcome formula plotting, limp dialogue, and a serious case of the sillies. (PG-13; runs through July 19) TY BURR

LAYER CAKE ** (Comcast Movies: Free Movies) Daniel Craig plays a ritzy London cocaine dealer trying to get out of the business in this propulsive, though morally suspect drug world flick that dutifully covers similar ground as Guy Ritchie’s movies: guns, chicks, expensive-looking locations, designer stuff, and so on. It’s all derivative, but Colm Meaney, George Harris, and the amazing (and amazingly tan) Michael Gambon are excellent. Directed by Matthew Vaughn, one of Ritchie’s producers. (R; runs through July 20)

WESLEY MORRIS

BLOWN AWAY **½ (Max on Comcast) The character stuff is strained, the script is skeletal and stereotype-ridden, and the whole vehicle is less streamlined than “Speed.’’ But this tale of an Irish mad bomber (Tommy Lee Jones) taking on Boston because of a grudge against a bomb-squad cop (Jeff Bridges) does have some riveting suspense, and a couple of truly big bangs. (R; runs through July 21)
