July 4th festivities to include parades, road race

The town will be hosting several events to celebrate America’s Independence on July 4 including parades, music, and a road race.

On Sunday, July 3, Concerts on the Common will continue with a performance by the Bridgewater Antiphonal Society that will include patriotic songs and show tunes. The concert takes place on the Town Common from 7 to 9 p.m.

Activities on July 4 will kick off with a children’s parade. Participants are asked to decorate their tricycles, bicycles, or doll carriages or dress as a historic character to march or ride their bikes in the parade.

The parade route begins at the First Congregational Church at 100 Winter St., off Walpole Street, and continues down Washington Street to the Town Common.

Awards and T-shirts will be given out at the end of the parade. The fee is $1 per child.

From 3 to 4 p.m., there will be a Carillon Concert and tour of the Tilton Memorial Carillon in Town Hall. The concert will feature Adrian Gebruers, of Cobh, County Cork, Ireland.

Norwood’s Firecracker 5K Road Race will begin at 5 p.m. For more information on the race, call 617-610-0084 or e-mail jxhen@comcast.net. Signup applications are available at Town Hall, the Civic Center, or the library. Registration will also take place in the Town Common before the race.

At 5:30 p.m., there will be an Eastern Massachusetts fire truck procession and displays of antique and classic cars, and World War II and Korean War military reenactment units.

The Fourth of July Parade Spectacular will begin at 5:45 p.m. It will feature national and international marching bands, entertainment acts, floats, military units, and community groups.
