Pine Manor College has named Alane Karen Shanks as its new president.

Shanks most recently worked as vice president of administration and finance at Roxbury Community College. Previously, she served as the associate dean for educational administration and finance at Harvard Medical School.

Pine Manor, a liberal arts women’s college in Chestnut Hill, was founded in 1911 and has about 500 students.

“Dr. Shanks has a distinguished record of high achievement and we are thrilled to welcome her to the Pine Manor family,” Serena Greening, chairwoman-elect of the school's board, said in the statement. “She truly understands and appreciates our mission, and we look forward to growing the school together.”

“I am honored by the opportunity to represent Pine Manor and am committed to bringing thoughtful, careful, and strategic vision to ensure its long-term health and stability,” Shanks said in a statement.

She received her bachelor's from the University of California-Santa Barbara in 1981, a master's in management of human services from Brandeis University in 1987, and a doctorate in education from the University of Massachusetts in 2003.

Shanks replaces Gloria Nemerowicz, who served as president for 15 years.
