Terry Francona said he was glad that he made the decision to hold Josh Beckett back after looking at him today.

"Looks just OK," Francona said.

Francona said Beckett, who was pushed back because of a stomach ailment, would start his next game Saturday vs. Pittsburgh. The reason Francona decided to give him a few days was to allow Beckett to do his normal side session before his start rather than just rushing him into his start.

Francona also said Tim Wakefield would pitch against the Pirates, his old team, on Sunday and that Andrew Miller would pitch the first game of the Sox-Phillies series a week from today.

Francona discussed the versatility of the Sox pitching staff which allows him to be able to move pitchers back if they need rest. He mentioned tonight's starter, Alfredo Aceves, as a prime example of someone who can give them a quality start every time he goes out there.

Francona also said he spoke to Jon Lester about doing some things that will insure that he stays strong the rest of the way. Lester could also be looking at extra days or some time off down the road so he can remain strong.

Sox pitchers continue to taking batting practice. Lester showed a nice line-drive stroke, whole John Lackey took some good cuts. The big thing is the bunting, which they've all worked on the past few days.

Francona spoke about the maturity in Josh Reddick's game. Reddick is still prone to slumps, but his power has been impressive. He had a pinch-hit two-run single last night. He enters tonight's game as the leftfielder, hitting .412 with six RBI.

Carl Crawford has been working on his throwing in the outfield. Francona didn't think it would be much longer after the two-week DL that Crawford will return.

Crawford is eligible to return on July 3 in Houston.
