Yankees ace CC Sabathia hit Red Sox slugger David Ortiz squarely in the thigh with a 97 mph fastball Wednesday night, prompting the plate umpire to warn New York and Boston against further trouble.
Umpire Hunter Wendelstedt pointed at both dugouts after Ortiz was hit with a first-pitch heater in the fourth inning.
Boston star Josh Beckett already had plunked two batters by that point in a game that started after a rain delay of nearly 3 ½ hours. Beckett hit Derek Jeter near the elbow with his second pitch of the game, then nailed Alex Rodriguez around the hip in the third inning.
