A water main break in the area of Lake and Lowell streets left about 15 houses and a strip mall without water for about five hours yesterday.

The break occurred between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. yesterday, said Davis Scribner, Peabody's Water supervisor.

"It was a lot of water, but luckily, the damage was limited," Scribner said.

Area water was turned off within an hour of the break, according to Scribner.

Traffic in the area was diverted from the area as crews worked to fix the water main, Scribner said.

The break was fixed by about 10 p.m., Scribner said.
