Marlins’ Cousins has received threats

A teammate said Florida Marlins rookie Scott Cousins has been receiving death threats despite repeatedly apologizing for a collision with San Francisco Giants star Buster Posey. The collision at home plate during a game May 26 left Posey with a broken bone in his lower left leg and three torn ligaments in his ankle, sidelining him for the rest of the season. Giants general manager Brian Sabean criticized Cousins on his weekly radio show this week, calling the play malicious and unnecessary. Marlins outfielder Logan Morrison came to Cousins’s defense yesterday, calling Sabean “wildly unprofessional’’ for calling out his teammate. “He’s getting death threats from people,’’ Morrison said of Cousins. Sabean’s comments got the attention of executive vice president of baseball operations Joe Torre spoke with Sabean yesterday. The Giants issued a statement saying Sabean’s comments were made out of frustration, and the GM was trying to reach Cousins … Mets third baseman David Wright won’t be able to do any baseball activities for three weeks because of a stress fracture in his back. He hurt himself making a diving tag April 19 and the injury was revealed on May 19 … Rockies pitcher Jorge De La Rosa underwent Tommy John surgery, officially ending the lefthander’s season. De La Rosa had been the Rockies’ top pitcher this season, going 5-2 with a 3.51 ERA.

Little Leaguer hit in chest by pitch dies A 13-year-old Arizona boy was killed after a baseball hit him in the chest as he tried to bunt the ball during a Little League game this week. Hayden Walton took two steps toward first base and then collapsed after the pitch hit him in the chest over his heart during a game Tuesday in Winslow. He died the next morning.
